Stefka Ammon’s site specific work at Kønigliche Backstube in Berlin examines the impact of culturally shaped ideas:
„To what do we relate our origin? What am I? Is this defined by myself? Is it defined by factual (geographic, national, genetic, social) origin?

At the “køniglichen Backstube” one wall is reserved for art. Three times a year new work of Berlin artists is being showcased. During the installation/exhibition the artists trade their wall piece for their daily bread.  The naming of the project einszueins (one to one) incorporates the very reason of the project: bread and art are equally essential goods. Here in this everyday situation art meets the beholder at eye level. At the same time every work of art undergoes a transformation at the scale of 1 : 2 (from the wall to a postcard).

Stefka Ammon’s work examines the impact of culturally shaped ideas:
„To what do we relate our origin? What am I? Is this defined by myself? Is it defined by factual (geographic, national, genetic, social) origin? Is it defined by an attribution? And: no matter who is defining it (myself or my “surrounding”):  what is being evaluated, how is it related, from what perspective being looked at?  To which social, political, gender, economic, etc. mechanisms do we submit? You are so many things at the same time and yet there is the “sensed” self: an undisguised self-perception. Well, is there such a thing?”

On September 28, 2019  Prof. Dirk Manzke, urban developer, curator and author, held an artist talk with Stefka Ammon.
