Space Release #2 | spatial shift

Space Release #2 employs strategies of shifting and overlapping to analyze the fundamental parameters of space. By taking up and recapitulating existing spatial elements, and also by interfering with them, artistic interventions question the use-fulness and signifcance of familiar spaces.

Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution

Watchtower is a (look-out) tower in the back yard of the center which can be used for leisure time as a place for recreation. It’s a significant object that also creates a line-of-sight to the neighboring German Intelligence Service (BND).

City Palace Potsdam

The proposal spreads grids consisting of LED-lines over the yard of the City Palace. These are tapering towards two opposing centers: Fortuna Portal beyond the palace (symbolizing the people) and the center of the plenary (symbolizing the representation of people).

Orientalists

On the pitfalls of the precalibrated gaze. Reproductions of anthologies on the art of the “Orientalists” dating from the turn of the 19th to 20st century are again reproduced in parts, enlarged, some of them rasterized, and reassembled in b/w photo-copies.

Perspective implies a specific position. The visual focus, from which you are looking at something determines the field of vision you can perceive. These are simple yet fundamental thoughts which are very meaningful for all members of the German Bundestag.

What happens to the view(er), when everything seen refers to it/him/her (as point of origine of the central perspective), in relation to a gaze that wanders, is stopped by an ornament and can then turn toward the “beyond” the grid?
